Korea-born artist Sang-Sup Lee highlighted the nature, ecological aspects of wood as they were and instilled more ecological energy in it by wrapping it in thread. The acts of integrating numerous twigs and wrapping them in threat in numerous times present a persistent wish for the dignity of life and coexistence of objects and people in the equal value.
Thus the act of wrapping continuously became an important indicator in his works.
Repeating the same act on and on requires self-control and huge time investment. Enduring the boring process of such an act means that one can obtain significance and value by getting to know his or her essence in the process of realizing the ego and filtering it inside. In addition, the traces left by the sequence of repetitive acts are like the records of time, which play an important role of revealing temporality in the traces of repeating and sequential acts.
His repetitive works requiring a lot of time may seem opposite to the speed of reality that changes in a fast and complex fashion. Each and every process manually implemented may be regarded as something that is inaccurate and immature. He, however, wanted to encourage people to see the one-time automatic reality in a more optimistic and positive way through his work process as well as provide a space of emotional leisure and present a chance for self-reflection and purification.
The work is intended to offer time for emptying and immersing through the acts of repetition and integration and promote the expansion of new formative dimensions by facilitating his internal thinking and emotional purification.
